Culture Night for Ballina

Culture Night on Friday 21st of September is upon us once again with a wide range of events in Mayo with events in Ballina to include: Arts, Poetry, Music, Storytelling and events specially for Children.

Ballina Arts Centre has planned an evening of five special events for Culture Night, ranging from children’s workshops to drawing workshops for teenagers, open mic poetry and two gallery art exhibitions – it will be a busy, interesting and fun evening for all ages. Refreshments will be served. The list of events is as follows:

  • Visual Art exhibition by Maria McGarry 10am-8pm
  • Visual Art Exhibition by Betty Gannon, Sarah Lundy and Jean Carrabine 10am-8pm
  • Children’s Art Workshops 4-7pm
  • Life Drawing workshops for Teenagers 6-8pm
  • Poetry Open Mic – 6-8pm

On Culture night at The Jackie Clarke Collection audiences with be delighted by traditional Irish Music, Dance & Song and the odd Irish Story and tale through into the mix.

The Ballina Costume Company will be working on the “Commemoration Quilt” in memory of the Mayo Orphans Girls and invite everyone to come along and add a piece of love and a stitch in memory of the 137 brave Famine Girls from Mayo who were sent to Australia, young girls who went on to overcome great challenges to leave their mark on the other side of the world.

Culture Night is the official anniversary of the coming together of Atlantic Rhythm & The Moffatt School of Dance and the Bofield Ceile Band. Join the entertainers for a night of celebration.

Ballina Library presents “A Celebration of Irish Lore & Legend”– a Concert of songs & stories

An evening of song, music, storytelling, poetry & variety celebrating Irish Lore & Legends with Billy Teare and Kathleen O’Sullivan. Billy is a highly worldwide regarded storyteller, musician & mischief maker. He has been a featured artist at ALL major story & folk festivals throughout his 40-year career. Kathleen is an acclaimed traditional singer, prizewinning writer & poet and has appeared on international stages including Glastonbury. An evening to entertain & delight all ages.
