Ballina’s Silent Moves wins Irish Times Modern Ireland artworks 2015

Silent Moves, a film made by visual artist Aideen Barry and Ballina Arts Centre with Western Care’s Ridgepool Training Centre and Scannán Technologies group, has been selected to represent 2015 in Modern Ireland in 100 Artworks by the Irish Times.

Silent Moves is a 28 minute long film, made using stop motion techniques, featuring artists from Western Care’s Ridgepool Training Centre, Ballina and Scannán Technologies group, working with visual artist Aideen Barry and choreographer Emma O’Kane.

Commissioned by Mayo County Council

Silent Moves was commissioned by Mayo County Council as part of Ignite, a new platform designed to generate Ireland’s most ambitious showcasing of talent from people with disabilities, led by international and Irish artists and performers with disabilities. Ignite is managed by a unique partnership involving the Arts Council, Arts & Disability Ireland (ADI), Cork City Council, Galway City and County Councils, and Mayo County Council.

Please join Ballina Arts Centre to celebrate this wonderful achievement on Thursday, 21 July at 7pm. The evening will comprise screenings of the movie, and artists from Western Care’s Ridgepool Training Centre and Scannán Technologies will talk about the process of making the movie. All are welcome to celebrate this fantastic achievement.
