A great family-friendly day out on the stunning beach vista of Lacken Strand

The Lacken Strand Races returns in 2018 for another year.

Proudly sponsored by  local businesses, this is a great family-friendly day out on the stunning beach vista of Lacken Strand, near Killala, Co. Mayo, situated on the Wild Atlantic Way.

This is always a very spectacular and colourful event, and all races take place along a six-furlong oval track. The horses are never more than a couple of hundred metres away from you and the thundering of the hooves of these magnificent beasts on the golden sand as they pass you by at high speed!

There are eight races on the card, but for health and safety reasons, only fourteen horses can run at any one time so it is likely a number of the races will be divided.

There will be bookmakers on site so you can have a flutter.

Not only will there be a great day’s racing, but there are events for all the family, with a best-dressed lady competitionchildren’s amusements and athletic events for children of all ages with lots of toy giveaways.

So please come along for a fun day out and share this post with your friends. It will be a day not to be missed!

Admission to the Lacken Strand Races is just €8. Children (accompanied by an adult) go free.

Art Exhibition – Spiritual Landscapes, 3rd – 30th June 2018

Ballina Arts Centre

Taking place over the coming weeks art exhibition entitled “Spiritual Landscapes” is a reminiscences, recognition and rediscovery from the basis for Marian McHale’s exploration of her local landscape and the rugged bogland near Turlough, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, striving to maintain the recognisable essence of the environment. Marian use her experience of the land her personal concentration of composition, form, light and colour, the objective of her artistic endeavour is to expose Turlough landscapes through abstract depictions revealing their multiplicity of colour, shade and the light.

Ballina Arts Centre art exhibition

Marian describes the essence of the finished works as “the synthesis of seasonal floral forms and shapes, which flourish and dissipate in the creation of the paintings. The fusion of form and content may deter precise description or interpretation, as the battered surfaces of these paintings suggest the relentless making and unmasking of images, when they emerge as an apparition”.   This exhibition – Spiritual Landscapes is not to be missed take your time and take in the beauty and exploration of Marian McHale’s.  The art exhibition runs until the 30th June and is FREE of charge.
